Your Team - Awareness, Events and Media
Awareness of our brand, operations, and impact is a top priority for Genesis. A widespread brand will help us attract the best student entrepreneurs and investors. Events, Awareness and Media team members are responsible for creating world-class events and content for the UT Austin community. We measure ourselves by the number of new community members we engage with Genesis, making connections to spark new innovation, delivering programming to spur innovative thinking, and bringing big names in entrepreneurship to inspire the next generation of student innovators.
Genesis is structured to take advantage of the 80/20 rule, whereby 20% of each team member’s time is spent outside of their assigned project area on initiatives that both are both high impact and of personal interest to the team member. In other words, you’ll also have 20% of your time to explore new projects within Genesis.
Your Role - Community Events Manager
Multiple times per semester, Genesis hosts community events which engage 30-50 Genesis community members with a fun and interactive experience. The individual who fills this role will be the primary driver behind making these events happen, owning logistics and promotion of the events to ensure engagement. This role is supported by Genesis leadership, but the Community Events Manager offers a great degree of autonomy for the person filling the role to execute event logistics. As primary executor of these events, you will gain a deep and extensive entrepreneurial network, so this role is great for those looking to build out their network in the Austin and expanded startup community.
You have a passion for startups, venture capital, and/or technology
Conviction to grow and foster the startup community on-campus and around the world
Excellent collaboration skills allowing you to work well with other alumni and student leaders
Passion for project or event management or related experience with other companies and/or student organizations
Understanding of or ability to quickly adopt basic software tools like Slack, Google Docs and Eventbrite
Collaborating with Events, Awareness, and Media Project Leaders to create intimate events that build out entrepreneurial culture on the 40 Acres
Handling VIP speakers as a representative of the University ensuring a smooth and engaging experience
Organizing digital and physical promotional activities including creation of digital content to promote the event and coordinating word of mouth promotion
Work with University departments and groups to organize tactical logistics including location reservations, technical coordination and food
Organizing day of event staff to handle check-in, A/V and other logistical functions
Open for: Any active UT Austin student of any major and any degree level (undergraduate thru PhD)
Location: all across campus and at events in the Austin startup ecosystem
