Providing capital and mentorship to startups at UT Austin.

Nicholas “Nicky” Cumberland

Friend, Inspiration and Leader at Genesis

1998-2018

Nicky had a tremendous impact on UT’s campus in the two and a half years he attended. After graduating as a Valedictorian from Memorial High School in Houston, TX, he majored in Business Honors, Finance, and RTF, while being heavily involved in a number of organizations on campus including Texas Cheer, Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and most of all, Genesis.

Everyone who met Nicky, even for a brief moment, could tell that Nicky was someone special. He was so hardworking, charismatic, and inspiring, yet so humble, genuine, and selfless. Nicky pervaded these characteristics throughout his time with Genesis. Upon joining in the Spring of 2018, Nicky quickly became an active member and leader in Genesis. Even while balancing a hectic schedule, he always made it a priority to attend all Genesis events and bring his charming personality with him.

Aside from Nicky’s contribution to Genesis, he was an amazing friend. He befriended everyone he met, and treated everyone like they were his best friend. He would drop anything he was doing if he saw an opportunity to help a friend. Most of all, Nicky was an absolute joy to be around. He was funny, clever, and so genuine in his kindness to others.

Nicky will always be a part of the Genesis family. The support that he showed to all of us at Genesis can never be repaid, but wherever we go, we promise to carry on his legacy of love, drive, and humility.
